There's no need to pedal backwards if you missed out on the massive bike party in Toronto in June, as another one is rolling into the city next week, giving you a second chance to join hundreds of riders for a night of two-wheeled fun.
Organizers say the June edition of Bike Party Toronto was such a success that it broke attendance records, inspiring another ride now scheduled for Saturday, July 18.
The event, dedicated to "creating joy and spreading fun in the city," brings together cyclists of all ages and backgrounds for a night that turns Toronto's streets into a rolling rave.
While most riders appear to be local, organizers say the last event attracted people from all over Ontario and even New York.
All wheels are welcome, whether you've got a mountain bike, BMX, road bike, or, heck, even a unicycle. If you don't have your own bike, you can rent one via Bike Share to join the fun.
Operating on a shoestring budget and run entirely by volunteers, Bike Party Toronto has been bringing a rolling rave to the streets since 2017. Riders show up in colourful outfits, deck out their bikes with lights, tinsel, streamers, and even speakers, then hit the road for a mystery route with no idea where the night will take them.
If you're more of a spectator than a cyclist, keep an eye out Saturday night for glowing bikes zipping down the streets, music blaring from portable boomboxes and impromptu dance parties popping up in public spaces.
The event is completely free to attend, though organizers encourage monetary donations to help "fuel surprises" and "unlock perks" during the ride.
Meet-up details are sent by email to participants through Bike Party Toronto's mailing list. For more information, visit the event website.
