Huge festival will set Ontario destination aglow with over three million lights

Ontario tourist hot spot Niagara Falls is set to host Canada's largest free outdoor light festival starting next month, with the launch of the annual Winter Festival of Lights.

Over three million lights will soon illuminate the popular tourist destination with festive, seasonal displays and installations to be featured throughout the Niagara Tourist District from November into January. In addition to the light displays, the Winter Festival of Lights will also boast a series of special attractions for guests this year.

One highlight is the Sparkling Winter Lights showcase, which illuminates the falls in a series of colours that mimic typical winter weather — drifting snow, blizzards, and even the aurora borealis — transforming one of Canada's most famous landmarks into a vast canvas for this light display.

Visitors can also check out 21 Nights of Fireworks, a seasonal tradition of fireworks at Niagara Falls, taking place on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. from Nov. 15 to Dec. 20, and nightly from Dec. 25 to Jan. 4.

And new this year, the festival will also feature the Laser Light Spectacular: a laser show choreographed to a custom soundtrack. This show runs every Friday and Saturday from Nov. 15 to Dec. 20, and daily from Dec. 26 to Jan. 4, with performances every half hour between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. on the designated days.

The best part? The Winter Festival of Lights is completely free, offering plenty of ways to experience the event with its installations spread throughout the city.

You can visit the event's official website to download the Festival Map, which will be available as of Nov. 5.
