The Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) Holiday Train is chugging across North America starting Nov. 19, and like every other year, it'll make a stop in Toronto — bringing festive cheer to the city once again.
A seasonal tradition for the last 27 years, the train has been spreading holiday spirit across the continent while raising food and funds for local food banks.
The train, decorated with thousands of lights, will arrive in the city on Nov. 29, with the show scheduled to start around 8:30 p.m. The free event features a live concert performed from a specially designed train car that transforms into a stage once it comes to a full stop.
CPKC has lined up an impressive roster of musicians headlining each mini show across North America, including names like American Authors, Barenaked Ladies, JJ Wilde, Smash Mouth, and more. The full list of performers is available on the official event website.
Each Holiday Train performance typically lasts about 30 minutes and features a mix of classic holiday songs and original music from Canadian artists. This year, Toronto's stop will include performances by Jade Eagleson and Teigen Gayse.
While the concerts are completely free to attend, guests are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items or make cash donations in support of local food banks. A separate drop-off donation site will be set up at train stops.
Over the years, this travelling light show has raised more than $26.1 million and organized donations of over 5.4 million pounds of food across Canada and the U.S.
The Holiday Train will kick off its journey in Montreal West, Que., on Nov. 19 and make stops throughout Ontario in cities such as Milton, Hamilton, London, Belleville, and Trenton before arriving in Toronto. It will then continue across the province, wrapping up its annual route in Gleichen, Alta., on Dec. 21.
The train's full schedule is available on the CPKC website.
The CPKC Holiday Train will stop at 750 Runnymede Rd. on Nov. 29.
