Toronto's about to get a whole lot cuter... or scarier. Or both? Take your pick.
If you've been obsessing over those wide-eyed, impish-faced little creatures known as Labubus, then mark your calendars, because the first-ever Toronto Labubu Meet-Up is going down at Union Summer outside of Union Station on Saturday, August 9, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Whether you're a non-believer, a casual collector, or have a full army of these viral vinyl toys, this meet-up is your chance to show off your best-dressed Labubu, trade with fellow fans, and snap the ultimate pics with themed Labubu photo ops.
Even better yet, the event includes a Labubu giveaway, and it's so easy to enter: participants will be asked to follow the @torontounion Instagram page in exchange for a raffle ticket. The contest runs from 2:30 - 4 p.m., and the winner will be announced at 4:15 p.m.
If your collection is missing a key cutie, or even if you absolutely revolt these things and just want to know what the hype is all about, this is definitely something worth checking out. Plus, you don't even need a Labubu to join in on the party.
And, locals from both camps are already speculating on the meetup.
Some commenting in response to the announcement on social media have said they simply "don't get why Labubus are so popular," while others have totally leaned into the Labubu mania.
As one Labubu-lover mentioned, "I found out about them last year and fell in love! I don't care for what's trending, I just like what I like."
Others wonder if the craze is just a result of limited supply and FOMO, writing "it's not always easy to tell the difference between whether you really like something on its own and whether you're just buying into hype."

But, this forthcoming Labubu meetup is not just about the dolls.
Set against the open-air backdrop of Union Summer's patio at Front Street Plaza, the event will also feature mouth-watering eats from some of Toronto's top food spots, a Malibu bar with summer-ready cocktails, and a Junior Dance Party hosted by Toronto DJ Academy.
These tiny, fuzzy figures with menacing expressions have taken over the toy and fashion world, and now it's Toronto's turn to join the movement.
You can connect with fellow collectors, dance to the live entertainment, or just grab some sunshine. Who knows, you may even leave with a brand-new Labubu of your own.
This event ended up being postponed last-minute following the publication of this article. Organizers explained the move was because of "overwhelming response" and "capacity reasons."
