Radar: Arthur Simeon and Debra DiGiovanni at the Rivoli, Poppy Seed and Whole Entire Universe at Elvis Monday, Intervention Monday at the Ossington
COMEDY | ALTdot Comedy Lounge
If you've never seen Ugandan-born Torontonian Arthur Simeon's stand-up act, be prepared to have some deeply-held stereotypes about East Africans picked apart with keen intelligence and undeniable hilarity. Simeon hosts tonight's edition of the Rivoli's weekly comedy show, which also has a good chunk of the city's comedic talent on the bill including the always funny Debra DiGiovanni, Monty Scott, Evan Desmarais and Aaron Berg.
The Rivoli, 334 Queen St. W., PWYC, 9 pm
MUSIC | Elvis Mondays with Poppy Seed and Whole Entire Universe
The music scene in this city is a little bit quiet now that we've hit the post-holiday lull, so tonight Elvis Monday rules the roost. Poppy Seed have been kicking around for a while, and are the proud holders of an official psych-rock membership card ever since they opened for Brian Jonestown Massacre. All-encompassing hardcore band Whole Entire Universe and alt-country duo Flashlight Radio open.
The Drake Hotel, 1150 Queen St. W., Free, 9 pm
PARTY | Intervention Monday
Intervention Monday bills itself as the gathering of a semi-secret society of elite and sub-elite artists and anti-artists. If that sounds a little bit pretentious and/or exclusive, it's just a party for gosh sakes. And three dollar bottles of beer are the definition of inclusive. Expect to hear the latest in obscure and sub-hip tunes, and seeing as it's going to be a freezing Monday night perhaps Ossington won't be flooded with those non-artistic types.
The Ossington, 61 Ossington Ave., 10 pm
