Currently, all jobs are remote-first or hybrid with the option to work from our office at the ZoomerMedia complex in Liberty Village.

Online Editor

We have an immediate opening for an Online Editor to line and copy edit articles, website content and other content including video scripts and social media captions as applicable.

The ideal candidate should be very familiar with blogTO and the content our team produces, and have experience editing content for the web in a fast-paced environment.

This is a full-time role. blogTO offers a competitive salary which is dependent on experience.

Responsibilities
  • Copy edit articles based on modified CP style
  • Proofread and adjust articles for format and visual integrity, and support editorial staff in fact-checking content in preparation for publication
  • Verify usability, credit, and assist in sourcing images for use in articles
  • Ensure articles are using the best headlines and images
  • Publish pending articles after ensuring content guidelines are met
  • Review previously published material and edit to align with current style conventions
  • Edit and write headlines for SEO and social
  • Ensure articles are written in compliance with Canadian media law and copyright regulations
  • Be a team player who can have fun while working hard
  • Other tasks, as required by your manager
Salary range

The salary for this position is between $55,000 and $65,000 per year depending on experience.

Reporter - Events

We have an immediate opening for an Events Reporter who can contribute to blogTO's coverage of Toronto events, concerts, nightlife and festivals to the website and across our social media platforms including Instagram and TikTok.

The ideal candidate should have a keen interest in local events, culture and nightlife and the ability attend multiple events each week (including weekends) for the purpose of creating content for the blogTO website and social media channels.

This is a full-time role. blogTO offers a competitive salary which is dependent on experience.

Responsibilities
  • Attend events for editorial coverage, take photos and videos for TikTok and/or Instagram posts, create Instagram stories, and cover live on on TikTok and/or Instagram as applicable.
  • Write articles related to events/culture topics that are part of the site’s editorial scope.
  • Attend and participate in regular editorial team meeting as applicable.
  • Participate in audio programming as applicable such as Clubhouse, Twitter Spaces and Discord talks.
Requirements
  • A love of all types of events (nightlife, concerts, festivals, food, fashion etc.) from underground and indie to mainstream.
  • A willingness to work unconventional hours, including attending events most weekends and evenings throughout the week.
  • Proven experience creating content for TikTok and Instagram.
  • In depth knowledge TikTok and Instagram platforms and best practices. Familiarity with all other major social media platforms including YouTube, Snap, Be Real, Discord, Clubhouse, Facebook and Twitter.
  • Excellent time management, attention to detail, ability to work quickly, collaborate with others and consistently hit deadlines and content targets.
Salary range

The salary for this position is between $50,000 and $60,000 per year depending on experience. This includes an option to participate in our quarterly bonus programme.

Managing Editor - Web

We have an immediate opening for a Managing Editor to oversee all website content on blogTO. You will work closely with our staff of writers and photographers in all aspects of website content production and planning including breaking news, articles and other written content.

This is a full-time role. blogTO offers a competitive salary which is dependent on experience.

Responsibilities
  • A love of blogTO and what we do.
  • Oversee all aspects of editorial planning and content production for the website.
  • Assign stories, provide mentorship, edit copy, fine tune headlines, source and format photos and multimedia, package content for publication according to the site's style and formatting guidelines.
  • Ensure the editorial team meets or exceeds content and growth targets.
  • Seek out and encourage multi-platform extensions for all content as applicable.
  • Monitor web and social media analytics and adjust content strategies accordingly.
Requirements
  • At least 7 years of journalism experience in a senior editorial role, preferably with news, culture and lifestyle related content at a digital media publication.
  • Bachelor or Masters of Journalism degree preferred.
  • Strong writing and grammar skills and the ability to enforce the site's style and formatting guidelines.
  • Familiarity and knowledge of Canadian Press style guidelines.
  • An understanding of what makes content compelling and sharable.
  • Expert knowledge of Toronto across a range of subject areas including general news, food and nightlife, arts and culture, fashion and design, real estate, sports and outdoors, tech and business, travel and more.
  • Active user of Instagram and TikTok.
  • Advanced skills with Adobe Creative Cloud applications especially Photoshop for photo editing.
  • Advanced knowledge of SEO, web and social media analytics.
  • Experience with content discovery and social monitoring platforms.
  • Strong time management, organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to work unconventional hours, evenings and weekends as applicable.
Salary range

The salary for this position is between $85,000 and $110,000 per year depending on experience.

Director, Digital Audiences

We have an immediate opening for a Director, Digital Audiences who will be responsible for engaging and growing the audiences across ZoomerMedia’s digital properties, including blogTO, Daily Hive and Everything Zoomer, among others.

You will be responsible for managing, mentoring and motivating a multidisciplinary team across social media, digital marketing, community partnerships, and distribution partnerships.

The role requires translating various brand voices and tones to social media and email, tracking audience trends, data and social conversations, setting strategy, experimenting with new platforms, tools and markets, and managing imperative internal and external relationships - all aimed at driving digital audience growth.

The role is critical for attracting and growing followers, turning followers into fans, and converting fans into regular readers and loyal audience members and, ultimately, subscribers.

This is a full-time role.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, develop, launch, and continuously evaluate audience building strategies across social media, digital marketing, community partnerships, and distribution partnerships, always seeking improvement in tactics for platforms across all markets and channels to achieve company growth targets, including increasing traffic, content views and community building
  • Define an approach for social media, email, and community engagement that achieves the business, brand and creative objectives
  • Track and analyze data, audience and market trends, and social conversations to inform strategy for each market, channel and platform
  • Proactively identify and adopt new platforms and drive continuous improvement across tools and technology
  • Explore content partnerships with distribution partners to further the reach of ZoomerMedia’s digital content
  • Foster existing and develop new critical relationships, acting as the point of contact for all current and potential social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, TikTok), email platforms (Campaign Monitor, MailChimp) and content partnerships (Apple, Google, Flipboard, MSN) to ensure ZoomerMedia’s digital properties are a priority publishing partner of theirs
  • Serve as the audience ambassador internally, keeping other departments up to date on strategies while holding the company accountable for deliverables as they relate to audience
  • Monitoring audience conversations, capturing and relaying audience feedback to relevant team members
  • Lead audience acquisition through tactical acquisition and performance marketing strategies, with an eye to increase acquisition in scope and scale over time
  • Represent ZoomerMedia at conferences and events, as a digital subject matter expert
  • Host Editorial and Labs training, assisting reporters, editors and the branded content team to develop content strategies and social best practices for their particular beat or project, as the subject matter expert for audience engagement
  • Manage, mentor and motivate a team of direct reports across Canada
  • Effective management of social media, email, and analytics , as well as ongoing exploration of other tools to drive further efficiency and effectiveness
Requirements
  • Strong leadership abilities with previous experience managing a team and working with the team to constantly develop individuals and optimize team and individual performance
  • Oversee an entire department that services various brands
  • Strong understanding of all aspects of social and digital marketing and the ability to develop and create strategies that drive traffic to the site and/or social pages
  • Analytical and data-driven mindset with the ability to understand audience funnels as well as the mechanics of bringing users down a marketing funnel
