Events Editor

We’re seeking an enthusiastic individual to oversee our events section, curate and write about upcoming events in Toronto. This can be a full or part time position in our Toronto office. Working remotely is also an option.

Responsibilities
  • Moderate, edit and add events to our events section.
  • Write articles daily for the site highlighting upcoming events. Here are some examples.
  • Write and format weekly e-mail newsletter.
  • Select events to be amplified on the site's social media channels and for more in depth editorial coverage.
  • Generate content for blogTO social media channels as applicable.
  • Collaborate with blogTO team members as applicable.
Requirements
  • Writing experience, preferably with culture or lifestyle related content at a digital media publication.
  • Strong writing and grammar skills.
  • Bachelor or Masters of Journalism degree preferred.
  • Familiarity and knowledge of Canadian Press style guidelines.
  • An understanding of what makes content compelling and sharable.
  • Expert knowledge of Toronto culture beyond the mainstream as it pertains to music, film, fashion, theatre and other types of events.
  • Good knowledge of Toronto bars, restaurants and event venues.
  • Active user of Twitter, Snapchat, Facebook and Instagram.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud applications especially Photoshop for photo editing.
  • Strong time management and ability to consistently hit deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently or with small teams.
  • Willingness to work unconventional hours, evenings and weekends as applicable.
  • Must have lived in Toronto for a minimum of 5 years.

Podcast Host and Producer

We're looking for someone to help us launch our first podcast. As a host and producer, you will be involved in all aspects of the podcast production including conceptual, logistics, recording, editing and hosting duties.

This is a full-time position in our Toronto office. The start date is as soon as possible. All final candidates for this position will be asked to prepare a sample podcast to show us what you can do.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee and execute all aspects of podcast hosting and production.
  • Brainstorm podcast concepts and ideas.
  • Plan and coordinate all podcast episodes. This may include booking external guests as well as coordinating with fellow blogTO team members.
  • Work on all aspects of audio production as necessary including recording, finding clips, editing, mixing and publication.
Requirements
  • You have prior experience hosting and producing podcasts.
  • You're an avid podcast listener and familiar with the latest best practices, trends and podcast offerings from media brands.
  • You have a knack for making engaging audio content including storytelling, constructing a narrative and conversation.
  • Expert knowledge of Toronto across a range of subject areas including food, music, film, fashion, the arts, real estate and more.

Culture Writer

We're seeking a junior to intermediate writer with a strong interest and knowledge of local culture. In this role you'll be tasked with writing daily, weekly and monthly articles on a range of topics of what's new and exciting in local music, film, fashion, tech and other sub cultures.

This is a full-time position in Toronto. The start date is as soon as possible. The successful candidate will be hired on a short-term trial contract and then considered for a permanent full-time position with benefits upon completion.
