Social News Writer - National

We're looking for a Social News writer to join the team to craft short, timely articles derived from what's trending on social media and breaking news. This is a full time position in our Toronto office.

Responsibilities
  • Write 6-8 articles for the site daily with a focus on breaking news and what's trending on social media. 
  • Editorial planning, photo and copy editing as applicable. 
  • Collaborate with other blogTO team members as applicable.
Requirements
  • Bachelor or Masters of Journalism degree preferred.
  • Familiarity and knowledge of Canadian Press style guidelines. 
  • Minimum of two years professional work experience in digital media in a writing role. 
  • Expert knowledge of Canadian pop culture, politics and other topics of national interest.
  • A knack for headline writing and understanding of what makes content compelling and sharable. 
  • Active user of Twitter,  Facebook, Instagram. 
  • Proficiency wih Adobe Creative Cloud applications especially Photoshop for photo editing. 
  • Excellent time management, attention to detail, ability to work quickly and consistently hit deadlines. 
  • Willingness to work occasional evening and weekend shifts as required.

Social News Writer - Toronto

We're looking for a Social News writer to join the team to craft short, timely articles derived from what's trending on social media and breaking news. This is for weekend and evenings coverage.

This specific position is different from the National writer as your focus here will be on local (Toronto) news. In addition, your shift will include weekends (Saturday and Sunday) and up to three additional days during the week. 

This role will start as part time hours with the opportunity to transition to full time. Working remotely is an option.

Requirements
  • Bachelor or Masters of Journalism degree preferred.
  • Familiarity and knowledge of Canadian Press style guidelines. 
  • Minimum of two years professional work experience in digital media in a writing role. 
  • Expert knowledge of Toronto and the topics we cover.

Social Media Manager

We're looking for a savvy social media professional to manage a number of soon-to-launch social accounts on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. This is a full time position. Working remotely is an option.

Responsibilities
  • Create and post social media content including text, photos and/or videos multiple times daily to a variety of social media accounts.
  • Monitor and participate in conversations and undertake other initiatives  to foster community and achieve growth targets.
  • Compile social media analytics to optimize postings and strategy.
  • Collaborate with team members as applicable.
Requirements
  • Impeccable grammar and writing skills and demonstrated ability to write social media friendly copy.
  • A minimum of one year professional experience managing social media accounts on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
  • Knowledge of social media best practices for each platform.
  • Understanding and experience with social media analytics including Instagram Insights, Facebook Insights and Twitter Analytics.
  • A keen eye for design and photography.
  • Proficiency with Photoshop or other software for photo editing.

Manager Experiential Marketing and Events

We're looking for an experienced Events Manager to conceive, plan and execute events as well as work with our event partners on sponsorships and activations. This is a full time position. Working remotely is an option.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and execute all aspects of event planning to bring an idea from concept to fruition.
  • Oversee event budgets, promotion, staffing, venue, tickets sales, food, drink and other logistics as applicable.
  • Identity, develop and maintain sponsorships with third-party events.
Requirements
  • Professional experience with events management and production.
  • A strong grasp of influencer marketing and strategies for social media amplification of events.
  • Knowledge of and interest in Toronto food, culture and lifestyle as applicable to this role and the types of events we create.
  • Ability to collaborate and work well with others.
  • Ability to multitask and work on multiple projects at once.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
