Thanks for your interest in joining Toronto's source for local news, food and culture. Our site currently reaches about 7.5 million users a month, plus more on social media. In 2019 we received 250 million page views.

Currently, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all jobs are remote-work. We use Slack, Zoom and other tools to collaborate, meet and discuss things throughout the day.

Before you apply for any of the jobs below, make sure you follow us on our social channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok), subscribe to our podcast and downloaded our app (iOS). We want to make sure you're familiar with our entire product offering.

All permanent full time positions come with benefits like health, dental and vacation days. Currently, due to COVID-19, permanent full time positions are limited so we are hiring mostly on short-term full time contracts until things get a bit more back to normal.

Digital Reporter

We’re looking for an experienced reporter to join our blogTO editorial team covering everything from news to food and lifestyle.

The ideal candidate is a social media obsessive who is as comfortable writing about a restaurant opening as they are covering a breaking local news event. They should be a strong storyteller with a proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

This is a full-time, remote role, but a familiarity with Toronto and all it has to offer is essential.

Responsibilities
  • Pitch, research and write stories for the website and social media platforms.
  • Source and format photos to package posts according to the site’s style and formatting guidelines.
  • Optimize stories for SEO and identify content ideas based on trends.
  • Consistently hit challenging traffic and content targets.
Requirements
  • A love of blogTO and what we do.
  • Experience working as a writer/reporter in a fast-paced news environment. 
  • Excellent time management, attention to detail, and ability to collaborate with others. 
  • A willingness to work unconventional hours, including evenings and weekends when applicable.
  • Strong SEO skills.
  • Familiarity and knowledge of Canadian Press style guidelines.
  • Expert knowledge of Toronto current events, restaurants, nightlife, and culture. 
  • Active user of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
  • Bachelor of Journalism degree preferred but not essential.
  • Proficiency with Photoshop an asset.

Video Host, TikTok and Instagram

We're looking for a proven social media host to create content for our growing TikTok account as well as Instagram Stories and other video-based social media. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with the range of food, lifestyle and news topics we cover.

During the pandemic this job is remote-work but regular field work is expected in order to film and create original video-based social media content.

Responsibilities
  • Create daily original video-based content for TikTok, Instagram and other social media channels as applicable.
  • Generate and pitch content ideas, write scripts, schedule shoots and other pre-production activities.
  • Edit, post and schedule content to social media platforms.
  • Reply to comments, messages and other feedback on social media.
  • Monitor performance of content through social media analytics to ensure engagement and growth targets are met.
  • Participate in regular team meetings via Zoom.
Requirements
  • Proven experience as a social media host on TikTok and Instagram.
  • In depth knowledge TikTok and Instagram platforms and best practices. Familiarity with all other major social media platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Snapchat and Twitter.
  • The ability to work independently to shoot and edit video based content to bring your ideas to fruition but also collaborate with fellow team members as applicable.
  • Your own phone, camera(s), computer, editing software and equipment.

Food and Lifestyle Editor

We're looking for an experienced writer and editor to oversee our food and lifestyle coverage. This includes restaurants, bars, nightlife, entertainment, music, arts and culture news, lists, reviews and service-oriented journalism as well as our coverage of local parks, beaches, things to do and day trips and weekend excursions from the city.

During the pandemic this job is remote-work using our tools and systems to manage a team of writers, photographers, videographers and social media hosts.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee all aspects of editorial planning for our food and lifestyle content.
  • Assign stories, provide mentorship, edit copy, fine tune headlines, source and format photos and multimedia, package content for publication according to the site's style and formatting guidelines.
  • Write and create content for the website and our social media platforms.
  • Ensure the team you manage meets or exceeds content and growth targets.
  • Monitor web and social media analytics and adjust content strategies accordingly.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Journalism degree preferred.
  • Familiarity and knowledge of Canadian Press style guidelines. 
  • Minimum of five years professional work experience in digital media in a writing and/or editorial role. 
  • Expert knowledge of Toronto restaurants, nightlife, culture and the topics that fall under this role.
  • Active user of Twitter,  Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
  • On camera (video hosting) abilities and experience on TikTok, Instagram Story and Instagram Live is an asset.
  • Proficiency wih Adobe Creative Cloud applications especially Photoshop for photo editing. 
  • Excellent time management, attention to detail, ability to work quickly, collaborate with others and consistently hit deadlines and content and growth targets.
  • Willingness to work unconventional hours, evenings and weekends as applicable.
