'Water' to Open TIFF

The long awaited and troubled project that is Deepa Mehta's Water is set to open the 30th Toronto International Film Festival taking place September 8 to 17, 2005.

The Indian-born Canadian director started shooting Water more than 4 years ago in holy city of Varanasi, but the project was stopped by an extreme hindu mob who destroyed the set. 2 films and 4 years later, she restarted the shoot in Colombo instead of Varanasi. Water is the third in Mehta's trilogy. Sounds like a great choice for the festival.

The Passes and Coupons will go on sale for this year's TIFF on July 18th. Mark your calendar.
