My Paved Runway - Nati Vanstone

If I could turn a plain black t-shirt into a cute little dress it would take me a few less hours to get ready in the morning! Nati Vanstone combines this simplicity with an ever changing nail colour selection that matched perfectly to a plaid vintage find.

Who: Nati Vanstone, 21, Student/Retail Employee

Spotted: Ossington

How would you describe your style?
I like finding interesting things and then putting them together. I don't really like spending a lot of money on clothing so I usually get clothes from my work and then put it with vintage things. I go to Value Village on a regular basis. I don't have a certain inspiration. I do like going to vintage shops. I guess it all just depend on how I feel.

What clothing stores do you frequent?
I like Tokyo Night Train in Kensington Market and shopping around here on Ossington. I really like Value Village on Lansdowne and [American Apparel] where I work.

What are you wearing right now?
The plaid shirt I got from Value Village, the shirt is from American Apparel. It's the Sebastien Tellier inspired t-shirt that he designed for American Apparel. The shoes are from Urban Outfitters and the purse is Value Village.

Where did you get your glasses from?
I got them from Discount Optical at Bloor and Lansdowne. They were only $20!

Around five years ago, what was your style like?
I didn't have any real style direction when I was 15 or 16. I just wore really plain clothes I guess. In high school it's really easy to just fall into what everyone else is wearing so I found that I was doing that, then wanted to get away from that.

Is there anything for your wardrobe that you're willing to spend more money on?
For a while I was thinking about investing in a really nice purse from Holt Renfrew but you can get really great finds at vintage stores so I have yet to drop the money on that. It's something I've been thinking about because it's something you need every day. Then I was also thinking that my style changes all the time so maybe if I spend the money on something that's really expensive, I might not like it later on.

Do you have any style icons that you get inspiration from?
Although I'm dressing my frumpy today, I really like classic Hollywood icons. If I could spend the time and money on it then Audrey Hepburn. I really like that but it doesn't mean that I dress like that every day.

Are there any items that you're looking for, for the fall/winter season?
I'm looking for really big sweaters and hats. I think more people are wearing interesting hats now. There was also this jacket at Zara that I saw. It was woolly but it had a plaid black and white pattern and didn't have any zip or buttons at the front, it just kind of wrapped over you. It's really big and nice and I've had my eye on that.
