Lily Singh wants this Toronto restaurant to 'slide in her DMs'

Scarborough-born YouTube megastar Lilly Singh may have made it to the big leagues, but, judging by her go-to Toronto restaurant picks, she hasn't forgotten where she came from.

Though plenty of Toronto residents have found their way to major mainstream success, Lilly Singh feels like a particular point of pride for us. Perhaps it's the fact that what began as a fledgling YouTube channel filmed in a Toronto apartment grew into a career spanning television, films and book deals, or maybe it's just that she always seems content to give her hometown the love it so deserves.

Love, I'll add, that doesn't come in the form of enormous ice sculptures that flood an entire city block, which other outspoken Toronto celebrities might consider taking note of.

That's why, on the red carpet at the Hollywood Reporter's Women in Entertainment Canada reception, Dished Toronto decided to ask the superstar the ultimate Toronto vibe check: what her favourite restaurant in the city is.

Suffice it to say, Singh passed with flying colours, even if the restaurant she chose isn't actually technically in Toronto.

The winner of Singh's foodie affection? Scarborough's (and Markham's) Federick Restaurant, a family-run Hakka joint that's been around for more than 30 years.

"I've literally given them a shoutout in every video, and I'm yet for them to slide in my DMs and offer me free food," Singh jokes. "I love Hakka food."

She goes on to list her go-to order: "Manchurian noodles, Manchurian balls, all of it. I love it all."

There you have it, Federick Restaurant: Lilly Singh's DMs are open, and she's patiently awaiting yours.
