Toronto is home to a slew of great Italian restaurants, but Brampton-raised pop star Alessia Cara has strong opinions about which would actually pass the Nonna test.
Born in Mississauga, raised in Brampton and now residing in Toronto, it's safe to say that, in addition to her deft musical mastery, Cara knows a thing or two about the GTA food scene.
And, being the daughter of an Italian mother and Italian-Canadian father, she perhaps knows her way around the city's Italian restaurants best of all, but which Toronto Italian restaurants actually measure up to the real deal when it comes to authenticity?
Dished Toronto recently sat down with the singer to get her thoughts, and her answers proved that she has some top-tier taste in restaurants.
So, where would Alessia Cara send her Italian family to eat in Toronto to prove that this city knows how to do Italian cuisine?
Giulietta, Enoteca Sociale, Famiglia Baldassarre and Occhiolino Pastificio all take the cake in her eyes.
"I feel like Canada, or Toronto, makes really good modern Italian food," Cara elaborates, although she expresses fear that the "purists are going to come for me."
Now, I may not be Italian, but if you ask me, Alessia Cara just nailed the ultimate Toronto Italian food tour.
