People in Toronto are going crazy for this new cheap breakfast sandwich restaurant

A brand-new breakfast restaurant in Toronto is serving up some of the city's hottest new breakfast sandwiches — but be prepared to wait in line.

It's only been two weeks since Makann quietly opened its doors in the Annex, just a hop and a skip from Bathurst subway station, but it's already managed to earn itself an almost evangelical fanbase, which is only growing by the day.

It's no secret: Toronto loves sandwiches, and the breakfast-specific versions are no exception. Whether placed on a bagel or bursting with the fragrant aromas of bacon, egg, and cheese, the people will come.

But Makann isn't your old-fashioned bacon, egg and cheese joint, though. Instead, it's all about Palestinian-inspired sandwiches, served on airy flatbreads.

The star of the show, the shop's za'atar spread, features prominently on the menu, from the za'atar sandwich, laden with cucumber, tomato, and olives (priced at a modest $7.50), to the za'atar-and-egg with sumac onions and arugula.

The small-but-mighty menu is comprised of just five items, including an egg and cheese with caramelized onions, home fries and house sauce, and labneh and smoked salmon. A tight selection of baked goods crowns it all off.

In the restaurant's short time in business, it's already earned a perfect five-star rating on Google, with patrons proclaiming the shop their "new favourite sandwich shop," lauding it for its "perfectly fluffy and flavourful sandwiches, cozy vibe and welcoming owner."

Open Tuesday through Sunday, expect to be met with a lineup when you swing by: only about three people can physically fit inside the shop at a time, but, on the bright side, the team whips them up in only a matter of minutes, so you won't have to wait long. Rest assured, it'll be well worth it.

Makann is located at 866 Bathurst St.
