An Ontario fried chicken business that's been breaking the internet since 2018 will soon be getting more accessible to Toronto residents.
It's the classic trope of forbidden fruit: in a lush garden, full of anything and everything you could want to sink your teeth into, it's the one thing you can't have that gets your mouth watering.
For Toronto residents, who have a bounty of fried chicken operations, from major chains like Dave's Hot Chicken to independents like Chick-N-Joy, to choose from, London's BTRMLK has remained the object of our affection.
Sure, if one wants to badly enough, a Toronto resident can drive to London, Ont., to try BTRMLK, but enduring two hours on the highway just for fried chicken feels like a stretch, even for a proud fried chicken lover such as myself.
Still, the restaurant, which now boasts two locations in London, remains an object of fixation: Instagram reels depicting forearm-sized chicken strips getting dunked into various dipping sauces have earned as many as 13 million views, with over 300,000 likes to match.
After years of waiting, Toronto- and GTA-based BTRMLK devotees are in luck: the restaurant has finally confirmed it has a GTA location in the works.
Before you get too excited about a location opening in [insert your Toronto neighbourhood here], it's not landing in Toronto proper, but rather expanding BTRMLK's presence west of the city, settling in Oakville.
"You've come to us, now we're coming to you," a post on BTRMLK's Instagram confirming the expansion reads.
"We're thrilled to announce that we are opening a brand new BTRMLK in Oakville! Over the years, demand from the GTA has been loud and clear, and we're beyond grateful it’s brought us here."
Sure, it's still outside of Toronto, but a 30-minute drive sure beats the trek to London.
The official opening date for BTRMLK's new GTA location has yet to be announced, but the restaurant promises it's coming soon, so we shouldn't have to wait too much longer.
BTRMLK Oakville will be located at 280 North Service Rd W.
