Popular Toronto restaurant now serving brunch for just $5

One Toronto restaurant is inviting local diners to party like it's 1995 as it slashes its brunch prices in a big way.

Let's face it: everybody's trying to pinch their pennies these days. Living costs are soaring "out of control," groceries are only getting more expensive, and though rent prices in Ontario are on the decline, they're still among the most expensive in Canada.

It only makes sense, then, that people in the city are looking to cut back the amount they're spending at restaurants, but lucky for us, some spots are making it so that we don't have to stop going out to eat altogether.

Dundas West staple Old School is staying true to its name, as it recently launched a promotion where diners can tuck into select brunch classics for just $4.95, five days a week: prices, the restaurant says in an Instagram post, "we haven't seen since 1995!"

Running Monday through Friday until Feb. 27, you can visit the restaurant and pick up the dish du jour for less than the price of a round trip on the TTC.

On Monday, it's the almighty BLT with fries; on Tuesday, a mac n' cheese skillet; Wednesdays go to the restaurant's famous Blueberry Hill pancakes; Thursdays are strawberry waffles, and on Friday, you can pick up a classic combo of two eggs, home fries and baked beans.

"This is our way of saying thank you for supporting your local Dundas West spot so hard that now people from all over the world show up for a stack of Blueberry Hill Pancakes and a proper plate of Bennies," the website writes.

And, if you're budget-conscious but hoping to grab a quick cup of joe before your brunch reso, you're in luck: Sam James Coffee Bar just made a similar move.

In response to Toronto's rising cost of living, the coffee bar recently set a flat price of $2.99 for all sizes of drip coffee, and plans to keep those prices in place indefinitely.

Now if the city's landlords and grocery stores would only follow suit.
