Intriguing new Ontario restaurant is the definition of 'no new friends'

A new Chinese restaurant that just opened in Ontario is a major win for the antisocial crowd: every table has its own room.

The solo dining concept has been on the rise in Ontario for years now, with restaurants like Yunnan Noodle Shack, where each seat along a long banquet table is partitioned for total solitude, but one restaurant in the GTA is taking the concept to new heights.

Quietly opening its doors in the fall of 2025, you won't find a sweeping dining room or communal seating at Markham's Luna Private Banquets. Instead, the restaurant is made up exclusively of individual private dining rooms.

This isn't the sort of place for solo dining, though. Rather, each of the restaurant's 26 individual rooms is designed to seat a group, boasting options for up to six diners, up to fifteen diners, twenty diners or an expansive banquet hall that seats up to sixty.

Each room pays homage to the Tang and Song dynasties, honouring the golden age through subtle architectural and decorative accents reinterpreted for the modern day.

If maintaining a conversation with your friends in the low-ceilinged, loud-soundtracked and dimly-lit dining rooms of downtown Toronto is a constant annoyance to you, you may have just found your new favourite restaurant.

Aside from the novel private dining experience, the menu at Luna Private Banquets, while expansive, is fairly standard.

Dim sum runs daily before dinner service from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., where all the usual suspects are in rotation, boasting a seemingly infinite list of seafood options, regional specialties, soups, broths and fried rice dishes.

If the sheer size of the menu is daunting enough to impact your appetite, you can also opt to choose from a selection of set menus which serve your entire party, ranging from $268 for four diners to nearly $5,000 for ten.

Whatever you choose, you can rest assured knowing that experience won't be impeded by people-watching your fellow diners. As Drake once said: "No new friends."

Luna Private Banquets is located at 7225 Woodbine Ave.
