Many more Beer Store locations in Ontario to shut down this summer

The Beer Store has announced another swathe of locations in Ontario that'll be shutting down for good this summer, in what marks just the latest round of closures for the chain.

It's been a rough year for The Beer Store. As of February 2025, 23 locations of the ready-to-drink alcohol chain had shuttered and, in the months since, no fewer than 18 more had joined them.

Now, The Beer Store has confirmed in a June 9 statement that an additional 10 locations across the province are slated to close down as of Aug. 10.

The latest locations on the chopping block are:

• Cambridge 130 Cedar St., Cambridge, ON., N1S 1W4
• Iroquois Falls 227 Cambridge Ave., Iroquois Falls, ON., P0K 1E0
• Mississauga 2925 Eglinton Ave. W., Mississauga, ON., L5M 6J3
• Mississauga 3154 Hurontario St., Mississauga, ON., L5B 1N9
• Mississauga 65 Queen St. N., Mississauga, ON., L5N 1A4
• Oakville 1431 Rebecca St., Oakville, ON., L6L 1Z6
• Scarborough 2934 Finch Ave. E., Scarborough, ON., M1W 2T4
• Tottenham 55 Queen St., Tottenham, ON., L0G 1W0
• Vaughan 1470 Major Mackenzie Dr., Vaughan, ON, L6A 4H6

"We made the difficult decision to close these retail locations. We will continue our focus on what we do best, ice-cold beer, great customer service and a world-class recycling program that last year returned more containers than we sold," says Ozzie Ahmed, the Vice President of Retail at The Beer Store.

"Modernizing operations in a changing marketplace is never easy, we know this will be difficult news for customers and employees."

It should come as no surprise that The Beer Store's decline comes as a direct result of the Ontario government's decision to allow the sale of alcohol in retail settings like convenience and grocery stores, but, per an agreement between The Beer Store and UFCW, the union that represents its employees, at least 300 locations must still be open by the end of 2025.

Once the ball drops in 2026, though, there's no telling what the future of the retailer holds.

The 2026 calendar year will also introduce new guidelines that require retailers to take back empty alcohol containers; a practice that, up until then, had been exclusive to The Beer Store.

"We will see what further effects this has on our members," UFCW President John Nock tells blogTO.
