go transit closures this weekend

Almost 150 kilometres of Toronto-area transit will shut down this entire weekend

GO Transit closures this weekend will cause havoc for commuters, as Metrolinx plans to shut down a vast stretch of its regional transit network.

Metrolinx plans to shut down service on the entire Barrie GO Line, along with a significant portion of the Lakeshore West GO Line, for the entire weekend of Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31, 2026.

The two closures will add up to almost 150 kilometres of track, with 18 stations not served by trains this weekend.

Here's everything you need to know about the rough weekend commute ahead:

Barrie Line

Service will be halted along the entire Barrie Line this weekend, taking over 101 kilometres of track and 11 stations out of commission.

Train service will be replaced by GO buses between Allandale Waterfront GO and Highway 407 Bus Terminal. Commuters travelling south of Highway 407 can connect with the TTC to continue their trips.

The closure will impact commuters headed to Rogers Stadium for the final May 30 and 31 shows in Bruno Mars' five-concert stop in Toronto, as Downsview GO will be among the stations closed during the outage.

Lakeshore West Line

A 45-kilometre stretch of track will shut down along the Lakeshore West Line, spanning seven stations between Aldershot and Mimico.

The closure, attributed to ongoing GO expansion work, will see service replaced with GO buses, making stops at West Harbour, Aldershot, Burlington, Oakville and Clarkson GO stations, and finally, Bramalea GO, where customers can continue east via the Kitchener line to Union Station.

Toronto commuters not relying on GO can otherwise rest easy this weekend, as, for once, the TTC has not scheduled any significant subway closures overlapping with the regional transit chaos ahead.
