Ontario's tech capital has officially unveiled its list of top employers for 2026.
Waterloo Area's Top Employers is an annual editorial competition that recognizes businesses and employers in the Kitchener-Waterloo and Guelph area that "lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work."
Any employer, whether in the private or public sector, with its head office or principal place of business in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, or Guelph, can apply to the competition.
Employers in the region are evaluated based on eight selection categories, including workplace, work atmosphere and social, health, financial and family benefits, vacation and time off, employee communications, performance management, training and skills development, as well as community involvement.
While these categories have remained the same since the project's inception 19 years ago, new areas of review have included hybrid and remote work options, and health and wellness initiatives.
The largest employer recognized in this year's competition was Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc. in Cambridge with 8,500 full-time employees. According to the report, the employer "leads its industry" in offering family-friendly benefits, including maternity and parental leave top-ups for new moms (to 65 per cent of salary for 50 weeks).
Employees here also have access to a variety of on-site amenities, including a fitness facility with a full gymnasium, a quiet room for meditation, outdoor walking trails, and a basketball court.
The smallest employer recognized this year was System1 Canada ULC in Guelph, which has 42 full-time employees. The company offers several in-house health and wellness initiatives, including a general mental health coverage benefit of up to $3,000 annually.
Here are the region's top employers for 2026, in no particular order.
