Toronto hospital just outranked the most prestigious facilities in the world

A Toronto hospital was just recognized as the best in its field, beating out some of the top medical facilities worldwide.

Among Newsweek and Statista's newly-released lists of the best specialized hospitals across the globe in various categories for 2026, T.O.'s own Hospital for Sick Children (a.k.a. SickKids) took the very top spot for pediatrics, coming above a whopping 249 other centres of its kind.

Other Toronto hospitals with notably high placements within the top 25 were Sunnybrook (9th in obstetrics & gynecology, 25th in urology) and The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (9th in oncology).

Also honoured for its research and care was UHN's Toronto General Hospital, which was ranked 15th in the field of cardiac surgery, 15th in gastroenterology, 21st in pulmonology, 23rd in endocrinology, and 24th in cardiology more generally, along with landing further down on some of the other lists (46th in urology, specifically).

Mount Sinai Hospital was named 15th in obstetrics and 20th in endocrinology (also 27th in neurology, 37th in pulmonology and 39th in orthopedics), while the city's Krembil Neuroscience Centre (UHN/Toronto Western/Toronto General) placed not too badly on the neurosurgery list, at 28th.

All in all, hundreds of clinics were given a callout across 12 disciplines based on the results of both Patient-Reported Outcome Measurements and a survey of medical experts. Accreditations and certifications were also taken into account.

"These hospitals demonstrate the best specialized care, setting the standard for global excellence," the researchers write.

"We hope that this list helps you or your loved one find the right treatment options when faced with rare or complicated conditions."
