New Yorker visiting Toronto goes off about city's traffic in viral video

One might logically assume that the enormous, notoriously hectic metropolis of New York City has far worse traffic than Toronto on any given day. But, according to one visitor who hails from the Big Apple, our gridlock apparently gives our southerly neighbour a run for its money.

The traveller, who was in T.O. to see System of a Down and Deftones perform at the new Rogers Stadium earlier this month, took to TikTok to bemoan the congestion she had to grapple with while navigating our roads — which she said pushed her to a completely new level of road rage.

"I drive in New York daily, I go to the city all of the time; I have never in my life dealt with that kind of traffic, that kind of anger," the concertgoer vented, asking, simply, "What the f*** Toronto, dude?!"

She took particular issue with our lack of dedicated left-turning lights, plus the fact that drivers have to weave around streetcars — "you are sharing the road with a monorail train!" she exclaimed — but also an unbelievable number of scooters and bikes.

At points in the video, she simply grasped her face in exasperation, wondering how the heck locals cope with the insurmountable frustration of just getting around.

After touching on our gridlock issues, the user also took Rogers Stadium to task, saying she was one of a number of ticketholders who accidentally ended up at the wrong venue thanks to Toronto now being home to multiple major stages that bear virtually the same name.

"There are two venues with the name Rogers in them... literally, who is Roger and what is wrong with him?" she asked.

"I'm not joking, like half of the concert was at the wrong Rogers place. We were supposed to be at Rogers Stadium, everybody was at Rogers Centre.... and by the time we made it to Rogers Stadium, what a sh*tshow, I will never go there again."

The frustrated fan then went on to describe how, after spending a ridiculous amount of time getting from one Rogers property to the other, she was faced with an hour-long parking debacle, which was followed by a two-mile walk from the entrance to her actual seat.

"I left Rogers Centre at 5 p.m. and I made it into the concert at 7:40 p.m., do you understand that? Like, you really need to get it together, Toronto," she complained.

While her review of the overall visit was that she loved it and also hated it, the relatability of everything she mentioned seems to be resonating hard with Ontario locals, who have chimed in with reassurances such as "Welcome to Toronto, babe! Nothing here makes sense" and "Being a Canadian, this is HILARIOUS, but such a valid crashout."

"You said 'I left at 5 and got there at 7:40' and I went 'wow, you had pretty good luck with Toronto traffic,'" reads one of the most-liked comments, while another states, "It makes me feel so validated that a New Yorker thinks Toronto traffic is bad."

As of the time of publication, the rant has racked up nearly 100k views and more than 10k likes in less than 24 hours, hopefully serving as a warning to out-of-towners to allocate as much time as possible to journeying around Toronto if they ever end up here — or, ideally, forego driving altogether if they can.
