407 free march

Ontario Highway 407 is free during rush hour for this entire month

Ontario drivers are getting a break on the ever-rising cost of living in the province and will get free access to Highway 407 ETR during rush hour throughout the month of March 2025.

The private operators of the tolled highway route announced that, from March 1, 2025, to March 31, 2025, Ontario drivers will be able to use the 407 toll-free on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and/or 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

But there are some things you might need to know first.

Who is eligible?

Personal vehicles with Ontario licence plates can access this promotion, while private truck traffic and other heavy vehicle transponders are not eligible for this offer.

What is covered?

Throughout this promotion, motorists will have toll charges, trip toll charges, camera charges, and applicable account fees waived and replaced by a promotional credit on bills. Transponder lease fees will continue to apply for motorists who lease the devices.

How to get in on the promotion

Travel will be free during weekday rush hour periods, but there is a catch that could lead to many drivers missing out on the savings. Motorists looking to cash in on the promotion must sign up for an account and expressly agree to the My Account and Paperless Agreement to be eligible for the promotion.

Only after completing this process can customers log into their account and enroll for the promotion —  a process likely to leave many drivers paying their regular tolls and fees.

Could free travel extend past March?

The promotion for "free unlimited travel" specifies that it will not apply during Ontario statutory holidays. There are no stat holidays in the province this month, which could be interpreted as a sign that this promotion may be extended into the spring — with the next statutory holiday occurring in April. However, it could also just be reused boilerplate, as a similar promotion was also offered last year.

The move comes amid discussions of a provincial buyback of the privately-operated toll highway as the region grapples with gridlock.
