Toronto named among world's quietest cities but somehow also among the loudest
A new study aimed at uncovering the world's quietest cities just named Toronto one of the best urban centres for travellers seeking a peaceful break to escape — despite somehow also registering as one of the world's noisiest cities.
Online language course provider Preply analyzed major cities around the globe based on a variety of factors, including traffic, noise pollution levels, and population density to reveal the best cities for a peaceful night's sleep.
Although Toronto residents will quickly bring up the constant honks and construction noise blaring across the city on a daily basis, the study ranks Toronto as the 10th quietest city in the world, with 4.4 million annual visitors and an average time spent in traffic of 45 minutes.
With a population density of 3,000 people per square kilometre, Frankfurt was crowned the quietest city in the world.
On the other hand, Paris was ranked the world's noisiest city, with a population density of 21,000 people per square kilometre and a noise pollution level of 58.62.
The City of Love was followed closely by New York City, which has a population density of 10,000 residents per square kilometre and over 13 million visitors per year.
Despite ranking as one of the world's quietest cities, Toronto also somehow ranks as one of the noisiest urban centres in the world, coming in at #19 on the global list.
