Teen Shot on Yonge Street, Video Recorded, Details Sketchy: Police

A 15-year-old male is in hospital today after being shot in the leg early this morning along the same stretch of Yonge Street where last year Jane Creba and six others were shot during a Boxing Day gunfight. Police are investigating the shooting, four or more shots of which shattered windows at Sam the Record Man, and which was recorded on the closed-circuit TV system installed on Yonge for this year's holiday season. No word from police yet on whether the teenager, who checked himself into St. Michael's hospital around 7:30 this morning, was an intended target of the shootings, nor on the connection to the group of friends he was walking with when the shooting took place. From the Toronto Star: "The boy, who [Toronto Police Sgt. Stan] Belza said lives in a foster home outside the city, has not been co-operative with investigators."

CTV and 680 News have more, while the Globe and Mail reports that the closing week of 2006 proved to be as much the "week of the gun" as this year was the "year of the gun."
