Let Rawad Stay

The Globe and Mail had an extensive article yesterday on the case of Rawad Reda. He's a former star student at Jarvis Collegiate who Canadian immigration officials are trying to deport.

Some of the key facts:

* Rawad Reda is a 20 year old recent high school graduate who moved to Toronto in 2000 from Lebanon. At that time, he was granted a student visa and a temporary resident permit.
* At Jarvis Collegiate, Rawad was a member of the student drama club and helped lead fundraising drives for the United Way and AIDS in AFRICA. In 2006, he was given the Multicultural Leadership Award and the School Spirit Award.
* This fall he was accepted to study aviation management at Georgian College. He has been unable to attend because immigration officials denied his request for a student visa. He has been told to leave the country voluntarily or face enforcement action.

More details and information on how to help can be found on the Let Rawad Stay web site.
