Jupiter Bakehouse

Jupiter Bakehouse is a Toronto bakery centred around Canadian grain and French pastry.

It's rare to find a bakery that churns out hardy loaves of sourdough bread and delicate French pastries that both equally hit the mark, but Jupiter Bakery, Little India's latest sensation, somehow manages to do it.

Founded in 2023 as a farmers' market fixture by head baker Jackson Forster, Jupiter Bakehouse officially found its permanent home a stone's throw from the intersection of Gerrard and Coxwell in late 2025.

In a short time, the bakery has already become a local institution, regularly selling out of sourdough hours before closing time.

jupiter bakehouse toronto A Blackbird Baking and Petite Thuet alumnus, Forster's first love in the baking world was breadmaking, and the bakery carries a diverse selection of breads. The sizeable sesame sourdough ($13) is a best-seller, but their Ontario sourdough ($8) is also a must-try.

The breads are at once impressively light and substantial, and near impossible not to crush within the first 24 hours after you bring it home.

jupiter bakehouse torontoThe olive and polenta fougasse ($8) is another of the bakery's specialties. The claw-shaped flatbread is larger than the average human adult's head and, with salty, oily pops of Castelvetrano olive in every bite, utterly addictive

jupiter bakehouse torontoThe bakery exclusively uses flour from Howick Community Farms, a collective of 30 Mennonite farmers in Clifford, Ontario, and all the other ingredients used in the bakery's various offerings are sourced exclusively from Ontario, too.

"A lot of bakeries end up using flour that has chemical stabilizers in it, and we kind of want to get away from all that, and go back to simple bread that's really good and good for you," Forster tells blogTO.

But bread isn't the only thing on the menu at Jupiter Bakehouse.

The pastry selection, though limited, never fails to fit the bill. The classic blueberry danish ($8) features tart wild Ontario blueberries and a demure, light custard, all nestled in the centre of impressively light layers of pastry.

jupiter bakehouse torontoIf you're not a big blueberry person — or even if you are — the tiramisu danish ($11) is an absolute can't miss. As something of a tiramisu connoisseur, I almost prefer this rendition of the Italian dessert to the real deal.

Bonus points for making it acceptable to eat tiramisu for breakfast, too.

jupiter bakehouse torontoBelieve it or not, even the gluten-free set is represented at Jupiter Bakehouse. The buckwheat financier with chocolate ganache ($5.50) is a substantial sweet treat that, using Ontario-grown buckwheat instead of flour, is naturally gluten-free.

jupiter bakehouse torontoIf you, like me, are a savoury snacker through and through, the pretzel with smoked cheese ($7.50) checks all the boxes.

A vein of cheese overflows from the edges (don't worry, the crispy bits are left on), and stays supple and snappy in the middle, wrapped around a smooth-shelled soft pretzel that puts your average mall soft pretzels to shame.
