Anna Camilleri in Two Hot Book Launches

It's a one-two punch for writer Anna Camilleri this week as she is involved in not one but two books being launched by Arsenal Pulp Press.

I have harboured a crush on this spoken word artist cum editor since I interviewed her along with the other members of Taste This! a couple of years ago.

Now she returns as editor once again, this time of Red Light: Superheroes, Saints and Sluts an anthology that explores the "female icon" in all her guises. Particularly noteworthy in this volume is the work of interdisciplinary artist Karen Augustine who like Anna, pulls no punches.

Red Light launchs on Wednesday October 5, 2005 at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, 12 Alexander Street. The doors open at 7:30 pm, show starts at 8:00 pm. $5 cover.

Anna also is included in anthology With a Rough Tongue: Femmes write Porn. I am familiar with the works of some of the other contributors, e.g. sci-fi author Nalo Hopkinson (The Salt Roads) and poets Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha and Zoe Whittall.

Personally, I am curious to see what my former high schoolmate contributor Mai Lui has come up with...

With a Rough Tongue launches on Thursday October 6th at Papi's Lounge on 459 Church Street at 8 PM.
