Photos of the new Roundhouse Theatre
Last night the Railway Children made its North American premiere at the Roundhouse Theatre - the old industrial looking building next to Steam Whistle Brewery that is also the current site of the Toronto Railway Heritage Centre. The new theatre, built expressly for this production, boats a whopping 300,000 square feet of space. Audiences are seated on either side of a massive railway track and all the action takes place on the station's platforms and on a real locomotive.
It's an impressive feat - and while the play itself might appeal mostly to parents with kids, the transformation of the space into an actual, live theatre venue is without a doubt one of the more mind-boggling set designs in recent memory.
