For fans of reality TV show Amazing Race, this may be right up your alley.

Toronto Central Sport and Social Club is holding a similar event right here at home. Billing itself as "an amazing day full of twists, turns, challenges and full-on reality TV-like action", Urban Quest 2006 requires participants to compete in mental and physical challenges across the city. 2006 Toronto race dates are set for May 6, July 29 and September 23.

I snuck a peek at photos from last year's events. Trike racing, gross grub eating and obstacle course frolicking were all on the menu in 2005, many with sponsors' products incorporated into the challenges somehow and corporate signage prominently featured (but of course!). My issue is this: if you have GM, Rogers, Red Bull and Listerine all willing to shell out mucho moolah to sponsor this shindig, why is registration still $150 (for a team of four)?

Meh. It still sounds like a hoot and I'm intrigued. Watch for my dream team coming to an Urban Quest race near you...

For more information, check out the Urban Quest website. Registration for the event is open until the Monday prior to each race date.

You're totally right about the outrageous entry fee. That's just one of the reason why <a href="http://navigatethestreets.com/";>Navigate the Streets</a> is a better race.

I've done the TCSSC race twice. We did the original one for which the price was included as part of our multi-sport league and then another last year.

These are really well run events with a lot thought and planning put into them.

I do agree though that the price seems a bit steep given what is actually required to pull something like this off.
