CyclemaniaCyclemania is a long, bike-filled space on Bloor West's busy bike shop stretch. It isn't for dilettantes - the owner would like you to know what your bike is worth, and what part you need, in the interest of making city biking more pleasant all around. The ceiling is drippingwith wheels, and the walls covered with reconditioned used bikes priced, it's to be assumed, at what they're worth.

Very shady characters, all trying to rip you off. I took a chance on this place because it was so near my house--WHAT A MISTAKE! They claimed the employee who took my bike "forgot" to charge me for some labour, and attempted to hold my bike hostage until I paid an additional $25 on work which I found out later was already priced waaaay too high. I got in a yelling match with the guy there and I finally got my bike--but clearly the owner is in the business of bullying (and extorting) money out of casual customers. After receiving my bike, the work they did was incredibly shoddy and the replacement parts they used were clearly below the quality they charged me. In fact, I ended up receiving the bike back with the brakes in working worse then when I brought it in (how is that even possible!?!?). I ended up taking the bike immediately to Bike Clinic for them to do over, which they did--perfectly. Avoid Cyclemania like the plague.

Not sure what Big is referring to. I test drove 3 bikes and the owner was very helpful, prices are the cheapest I've seen in the city for the amount of bike you get, and if anything they were encouraging me to get a cheaper bike that suited me just as well as some of their more expensive models. Different experience I guess...

Here's what Cyclemania is like.... I picked up an old 3-speed hub off of Craigslist and went to Cyclemania. I wanted it laces to a certain sized rim. The owner, Lubo, offered me a choice of rims of different qualities/prices, plus a selection of different grades of spokes. I picked out one of his house-brand frames, in the exact size & style I wanted, and picked out the style and size of handlebar I wanted. He used some parts that I brought in from my old bike - he even swapped my old stem for one of his of a different length - for free! There's not many bikes shops that offer this level of choice and customization.

I came here last year looking to buy my first bike. Arrived just before they opened at noon and the guy working there was already half way through his beer. Ha. Not that I really care about that. But what I did find objectionable was the guys pretension and lack of customer service. I wanted to learn about the components on the bike and wanted him to tell me why I was getting better value from one of their custom bikes than a ready assembled bike by a name brand. His response was that the owner was a former bike racer and I should just trust him. Felt like a really snobby place who didnt have time for someone just getting started with biking. Ended up getting a bike from Browns cycle and super happy with the sales team there and post sale support.

4 thumbs down. i bought a frankenstein from here - new brakes, wheels and gears, older frame. held up for a couple months before it needed service (not surprising with TO roads) - but found that other places (Pete's or CycleSolutions) could service it better than the moron that built the thing. Agree with the above comments that they're always drinking and will financially take advantage of casual rider's if they can. But, if you know your stuff, they won't. I'd rather carry a conversation with my mechanic and know what needs to be done instead of getting a "don' worry... i fix". bye forever cyclemania.
