Betty's is a favourite haunt for George Brown students to grab a burger and watch whatever game happens to be on TV.

Yikes, what a dive. And a dirty, not-very-charming dive, either.

Beer - we ordered cask ale, however it was noticeably oxidized (wet paper, vinegary taste) and should not have been served. Any decent publican makes a habit of tasting the taps at least once daily, and should pull off anything that's tasting bad. That wasn't the case here.

Food - one (small) step up from airport cafeteria food. My bean burrito had little imagination - just beans inside, nothing else, no salsa on the side; served with a tomato sauce that came from a can (very bland tasting). Despite asking for "little or no cheese" on my burrito, my dish had lots of cheese and was *identical* to a friend's who made no such request. Also, my side salad had tons of cheese and chopped egg on it. Gee, is it asking too much for the server to clue in?! - if I don't want cheese on my burrito, I probably also don't want it on my salad. It never crossed the server or kitchen's mind.

One visit here was enough. Again, the food is very mediocre - but it's not cheap. And the dingy interior is not cheerful. Definitely not worth a return visit.

If you enjoy surly staff, bland food and uncomfortable seats than Betty's is for you. Seriously, it was cool back in the day by namesake only but it's run it's course.

Betty's is a great spot that's a little rough around the edges, but that's part of what gives it its character. I have found that the service is usually very good, particularly when the staff and owners get to know you a little. Great apps, a lively atmosphere and a great little hidden patio make it one of my faves in town.
