Beer - we ordered cask ale, however it was noticeably oxidized (wet paper, vinegary taste) and should not have been served. Any decent publican makes a habit of tasting the taps at least once daily, and should pull off anything that's tasting bad. That wasn't the case here.
Food - one (small) step up from airport cafeteria food. My bean burrito had little imagination - just beans inside, nothing else, no salsa on the side; served with a tomato sauce that came from a can (very bland tasting). Despite asking for "little or no cheese" on my burrito, my dish had lots of cheese and was *identical* to a friend's who made no such request. Also, my side salad had tons of cheese and chopped egg on it. Gee, is it asking too much for the server to clue in?! - if I don't want cheese on my burrito, I probably also don't want it on my salad. It never crossed the server or kitchen's mind.
One visit here was enough. Again, the food is very mediocre - but it's not cheap. And the dingy interior is not cheerful. Definitely not worth a return visit.
Gee, if you asked for no cheese on your burrito and didn't ask for no cheese on your salad, maybe you just don't want cheese on your burrito? Complaining that they didn't listen when you asked for no cheese on your burrito is fine but "They didn't do something that I didn't ask them to do!" is not really a valid complaint.
Even today when the line started at 1130am for a 230pm game, the guys at the door were super nice about being asked the same dumb questions every two mins. And were extremely tolerant of the sometimes annoying antic of beer-induced-football fans.
I will be going again for sure.
This was last summer. We poked our head into the bar a month or so ago to see if they'd fixed the problem. Nope, every beer in the place looked like apple juice. Please fix the beer and we'll come back!!
I don't know of many places to eat cheaper downtown (outside of McD's or Subway)its fresh
As for stale beer, the place is always busy; one Friday evening when I was there, sitting at the bar, I saw 10 taps blow, so I'm guessing it is usually fresh.
I go there often and have no plans to change.
