Toronto events on July 15th, 2013

MUSIC | Americanarama: Bob Dylan & his Band, Wilco, My Morning Jacket, Richard Thompson Electric Trio
The Americanarama Festival Of Music hits TO! This is a serious concert lineup that would be hard to turn down for any folk/rock, or "roots" fan. Headlining is Bob Dylan, the guy that brought the folk and rock worlds together at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965. Richard Thompson is also part of this lineup with his Electric Trio, and Thompson is quite revered as a guitar player, having first come to wide recognition as a member of the groundbreaking English folk-rock group Fairport Convention in the late '60s.

Wilco, one of the top-selling live acts out there today, are certainly keeping this flame burning brightly, with a rock-oriented sound embodying folk and a variety of more contemporary influences along with it. My Morning Jacket, also on the bill, are a contemporary rock band with a considerable following that certainly owes a debt to all of these traditions, but has a unique approach that doesn't carry overtly identifiable influences on its sleeve. This is without a doubt, one of the Summer's great lineups.
Molson Amphitheatre (909 Lake Shore Blvd West) 5:30PM $35.50-$89.50

MUSIC | The Solo Sessions Present: Justin Gray, Tyler Emond, and Manny D
The Solo Sessions is a new live music series, presenting their second concert tonight. As the name implies, this series is devoted exclusively to the art of 'solo performance', where an unaccompanied performer is able to deliver a complete show all by themselves. Some might argue that this is a dying art, but The Solo Sessions might breathe new hope in that direction. Tonight, Justin Gray, a member of Humber College's Music Faculty will headline this show with a bass veena performance. Manny D will open with some solo electric bass, and Tyler Edmond will play a solo set of upright bass.
Studio 112 (163 Sterling Road) 7:30PM $12

ART | Dynamic Connections Art Exhibit
"Dynamic Connections", a group exhibition featuring photography, paintings and mixed media, continues today. This show features the work of Mirra Kardonne, Kamila Grygorczyk, Allison Foster, Andrea Bailey, Jeff Dywelska, Shlomi Amiga, and Ben Frisch. It would be hard to delineate a unifying theme to this show, and that is likely the point: the variety of media and artistic approaches conveys a sense of search for discovery or "answers", and containing all of these in one context gives a genuine sense of "dynamic" to any observer. This is an ongoing exhibit that continues through July 25th.
