The Green Room is closed (again!)

Posted by Derek Flack / February 25, 2011

Green Room Closed AgainThe Green Room has closed its doors again, following a brief relaunch last weekend. Although I've yet to get in contact with Jessie Tong, the individual who claims to be the establishment's new owner, the reason for this latest closure seems pretty straightforward: the restaurant was operating without a license. Inquiries made with Municipal Licensing and Standards reveal that while the Green Room did recently apply for a new license, that application was refused based on what ML&S representative Bruce Hawkins calls "concerns stemming from City of Toronto investigations."

Should the latest version of the once popular Annex hangout hope to operate again, ownership "has until March 24th, 2011 to request a hearing before the Toronto Licensing Tribunal." So the saga continues. For more on what we know about the current status of the Green Room, check out our freshly updated article Inside the new Green Room.

perhaps they'll drop the "green" this time around and just call the place "room".

Why is the green room so important? I've never been.

This isn't that funny. Some of us really like the place and in fact rely on it as a source of income. I don't understand all this Green Room hate.

Dude, it's been closed since September and was reopened for five seconds. Do not act like you just lost a job you had for 25 years.

You mean, apart from the vermin, the bad food, the bad service, and the bad drinks?

Yeah. Lots left to love there.

For the love of what's good, please give up on this place already.

Yeah, a real gem - like the time staff refused to believe we'd paid up one tab at a shift change before moving tables. W****rs.

You see so many movies where zombie outbreaks come from viral outbreaks and military chemical warfare, etc... perhaps we are overlooking the horrors that are the pad thai from the green room. For the good of society as we know it... please... just stop serving food!!!

For the love of Christ, is it really THIS HARD for people to run a rudimentary cafe and restaurant properly? What is their major malfunction? What an unreal trainwreck. It's a wonder anyone involved with this joint manages to dress themselves in the morning, much less actually appear before the litany of city hearings they subject themselves to.

Hey all,
I'm sure you'll all be glad to know the Green Room appears to have a 'pass' as of August 9, 2011. AKA it could re-open!
