Rossi warns TTC open fare bidders to walk away

Mayoral candidate Rocco Rossi has channeled his inner Buzz Lightyear and said, "Don't even think about it [cowboy?]" to businesses considering bidding on the TTC's request for an open fare payment system.

"Do not get involved in this political power play by a lame duck board. It will be dead on arrival at council's first meeting," Rossi said in a release.

C'mon, tell us how you really feel.

Rossi also emphasized that the city signing a contract one day before the new City Council is sworn in could handcuff the city with a deal it doesn't want. Rossi stands behind Metrolinx's $250 million Presto Card contract, while TTC Chair Adam Giambrone wants to see open fare payment on the TTC.

"My advice to bidders? Walk away," Rossi said. "Do not bid. Do not sign."
