Is province wasting money on PRESTO project?

The New Democrats have asked auditor general Jim McCarter to investigate the government's $250-million contract with Accenture to bring PRESTO to the TTC.

NDP critic Cheri DiNovo says the program is delayed and over-budget, as well as concerning since TTC chairman Adam Giambrone thinks open payment is the way to go.

The TTC is already spending more than $1 million to look at how credit and debit card payments could be used on the TTC. ("So, riders wave their cards to pay? Fascinating!")

DiNovo says she wants McCarter to look at the financial liabilities and strings of the PRESTO contract.
