Avant Mutek Toronto at the Drake

Posted by Carlos Weisz / May 7, 2008

Avant MutekFor the last six years the Mutek festival has been my annual excuse to go to Montreal. But this year, and this coming weekend in particular, we'll all be able to get a taste of the festival here in Toronto at the Avant Mutek session at the Drake.

Billed as an event that mixes Electronic music and digital creativity, Mutek is the premier electronic music festival in North America. It's a one week festival showcasing some of the best local and international, established and up-and-coming sound makers. It also includes discussion panels, audio-visual environments and events.

For Avant Mutek Toronto, Tempo Crew is presenting 2 days of showcases that will feature three of Montreal's finest producers alongside two of Toronto's most reliable names in minimal house and techno.

A highlight every year is the Picnic Electronic sessions, where artists jam at La Ronde Park. I'm looking forward to the Toronto version of this - an early Sunday set at the Drake SykYard from Toronto's Noah Pred and Montreal's Steve Beaupre.

Just found out that Raster Noton will be having a showcase on Sunday after the SkyLounge event at the Underground.
This is not part of Avant Mutek but definitely worth checking out too!
