Canadian Idol, Urban Style?

Posted by / April 5, 2006

R U the next Hip Hop, Reggae or R&B sensation?

I don't know how big or legitimate this is, but apparently there is an urban music-styled riff off of Canadian Idol in the works. Toronto is one of the cities involved.

"A nationwide talent search"?

"You will receive a recording contract from a major player in the game"?

Hmmm...

I'll be watching to see if they can pull off this "Urban Idol" (and what big names are involved).

Hey Ryan!

I checked out your review of the Common concert in Exclaim, and didn't know where else to contact you, other than blogto!

I guess this message ties in to the topic at hand -- you mentioned that you were impressed with Shad's performance when he opened for Common at the Kool Haus. Shad is definitely doing justice to the term Hip-Hop and what it's supposed to be all about.

Shad's performing on Friday April 14th at Savoy (Dundas Square area) with a funk band called "Methodology". It should be an incredible show, cool new venue and a great vibe. If you have the time, it'd be dope if you (and anybody else reading this) could come and check out the show. Shad will be performing with his full band (DJ, Beatbox, Bass and Drums)-- a combination that scored him a 96/100 on the Canadian Music Week Report Card. The live set with the full band is where Shad REALLY shines, so it'd be very very cool if you could come and check the scenery :)

MehMeh!!
