The Album Leaf w/ Tarantula: TONIGHT

Here's the thing: Tonight at Horseshoe Tavern there is a concert. The Album Leaf are playing with Taratula. The Album Leaf is Jimmy LaValle (also known for his skills with The Locust, Swing Kids, The Crimson Curse, GoGoGo Airheart, Tristeza, and Black Heart Procession). They're good, really good. LaValle is from San Diego and when I was there last summer visiting the only good place in SD called Casbah, I got to see them live. The evening was perfect. The music sort of washed over the room and left us speechless and drawn to the visuals. A sort of drippy experience to describe, but it was certainly a great show. I've never seen Taratula and all I know is that they're from NYC via Europe. Nothing to do tonight?

Tarantula kicked Album Leaf's ass. I forgot that concerts are kind of boring. It's a rarity when a band actually does something different. The Album Leaf played their songs along to visuals so there was no room for spontaneity. It was pretty to hear, but now that I have the cd it wasn't as exciting to hear it done live the exact same way.

Tarantula however! A mix of strings and heavy metal, they constantly surprised you with false endings and sped things up when you least expected it. At one point I laughed out loud at how awesome their twists and turns were. That's what I want out of live music!

Whoa, we shoulda chatted after the show- i thought Album Leaf was a dreamy wonderland, but Tarantula would be perfect-- if i needed a theme song while i burned in a fire. i foud T to be a total torture show! Insane how sitting close to someone you can experience such completely different emotions.
