Just opened OVO pop-up shop in Toronto sells "6" hats

Posted by Aubrey Jax / August 2, 2014

OVO Pop up TorontoDrake is definitely re-branding Toronto "the 6" - it's all over his new clothing collection, and you can score 6 hats at the OVO pop-up shop, open now until August 9th at 899 Dundas West. Merch will, naturally, be available at the star-studded OVO Festival at the Molson this Sunday/Monday as well.

OVO Pop up TorontoA line up of about 40 (ha) in-the-know fans were waiting outside the temporary OVO shop this morning. Most were hoping Drake might show, but he must have been hiding in the back folding and refolding the soft OVO branded merchandise, nervously wondering if "the 6" would catch on. Don't worry, Drake, we're sold. 6-ers for life.

The store is open 11am-8pm most days until August 9th (hours on the 3rd and 4th are 11am-4pm).

Awesome. OVO and Caribana all weekend long! A Festival weekend in Toronto!

anyone been able to figure out how "6" relates to Toronto in any way? Is this kind of like when Beyonce tried to get people to call her Sascha Fierce?
6! replying to a comment from 6? / August 2, 2014 at 10:14 am
It's because the area codes 416 and 647 have 6 as their common digit. I know, wtf. But at least they are excluding 905ers.
6? / August 2, 2014 at 10:38 am
That's it??? Two area codes have a six in them? This will last about a week or two.
aDawg / August 2, 2014 at 10:41 am
Has no one noticed that 416 and 647 also have 4 as a common digit? In other news, f#$k you Wheelchair Jimmy - you are a talentless hack and you are in no way an ambassador for the city of Toronto. Please move to a desert island and take Rob Ford with you. Sincerely, aDawg.
theEnformer / August 2, 2014 at 11:56 am
what about the 905? all nba'ers are from the 905. what an idiot. I have lived in toronto all my life and have never EVER heard it called the "da 6thhhhh". this must be a wannabe viral prank.

kreg90 / August 2, 2014 at 12:55 pm

d / August 2, 2014 at 01:09 pm
I think I'll start calling 'sauga "the 5" - one better than 6
J / August 2, 2014 at 01:43 pm
The designs are pretty basic. Nothing very interesting going on with this one... stranded hat and tshirt formula is so dated.
J / August 2, 2014 at 01:47 pm
Its been more than 2 or 3 weeks. Big Up Drake for putting and keeping Toronto on Da Map.

Guys... It's not to do with the area code. Before amalgamation we were 6 seperate cities, and now we're 1. I actually kind think it's a kinda cool and meaningful nickname if it ends up catching on.
M replying to a comment from aDawg / August 2, 2014 at 03:26 pm
You're a goof.
StatingTheObvious / August 2, 2014 at 03:27 pm
@theEnformer Google, wikipedia and an Atlas can all explain to you why '905' is not included in any reference to Toronto. But since you're oblivious to current events why would you know anything about geography.

Toronto has a new area code, dumb if it has to do with area codes and not boroughs.
TDub / August 2, 2014 at 04:36 pm
Toronto does not have "boroughs." You are not New York. Stop embarrassing yourselves.
416OG / August 2, 2014 at 05:27 pm
Can't we all just get along? For the kiddies and those who don't know 416 used to cover most of southern Ontario.
Regardless of the explanation "The 6" is just a terrible reference for Toronto
666 / August 2, 2014 at 05:28 pm
Anything that stops people from referring to Toronto as the TDot (like really???) is alright with me. Long Live The "6"!!!
EL / August 2, 2014 at 07:25 pm
The 6 refers to the name of his next album (since it's his sixth one).

Pretty lazy actually

Dest / August 3, 2014 at 08:21 am
6 refers to the 5 cities and 1 Burrough (yes Tdub, we did have a Burrough "east York"...etobicoke, Scarborough, York
Jacob replying to a comment from aDawg / August 3, 2014 at 11:56 am
It's NOT just the "common digit" - it's the fact that the 6 connects the two 41(6)47
wangster / August 3, 2014 at 01:06 pm
da 5 represent!
sans / August 3, 2014 at 03:47 pm
... 'cause RnB Hip Hop devotees have an IQ of 6?
seanm replying to a comment from TDub / August 3, 2014 at 06:48 pm
The term borough is in no way exclusive to NYC you fool. From Wikipedia:

"A borough is an administrative division in various countries. In principle, the term borough designates a self-governing township although, in practice, official use of the term varies widely."

And yes, the former municipalities of Metropolitan Toronto can be correctly referred to as boroughs.
Rihanna / August 3, 2014 at 10:22 pm
Yo! The "6" is the Illuminati number. You are buying into the Illuminati.

This is awesome! Was an amazing long weekend! Great festival, Great OVO!!!!!
nelson replying to a comment from 6? / August 5, 2014 at 11:12 am
toronto has 2 main area codes

so if you add 4+1-6-6+4+7=4

BUT there's 2 area codes

so 4+2=6

or it's the '6' because both of our area codes has the number 6
Todd / August 5, 2014 at 12:27 pm
More crap to peddle to self-conscious new Torontonians.

Drake's a marketing genius.
Pilli / August 5, 2014 at 03:11 pm
Don't even bother going to buy this garbage. Horrible quality for 100x markup. Go to any t-shirt place on Spadina and make the same ones for 1/10 of the price.

To the people that work there with the horrible personality skills…you guys are cool man, you sell drake t-shirts and hats…lol. But keep telling your friends your something more than you are. You're the mice that make Drake all the $$$. Keep lining up at foot locker to buy Jordan's to show off to your homies lmao.

Whoa. Good come back. You win this one, Drake. Until next time...
Jelena / September 2, 2014 at 02:57 pm
would anyone be willing to sell a ovo cap with a six on it? i would be willing to pay more than the original price:)
meowm / November 22, 2014 at 08:34 am
Both the owl and 6 are devil worship. Drake had 666 displayed at ovo fest just recently. But get in line to purchase you bunch of lemmings..
Mstar / March 22, 2015 at 01:06 am
Why are there sooo many haters. If you like it, support it. If not, don't buy the branded merchandise. It's just one person s (or group of people) artistic expression of the city. What happened to pple just supporting and not hating on what someone is creating /doing?
Robbie replying to a comment from 6? / January 14, 2016 at 10:05 pm
The 6 refers to the Toronto area codes 416 and 647. This explains the "running through the 6" thing
Other Cities: Montreal
