Whatever Lola Wants

I was killing some time between tasty treats at Hollywood Gelato and my massage appointment at Glow Spa when I discovered a new store on Bayview mysteriously named Whatever Lola Wants . The cutesy pink pajamas in the window and the scents of lotion and leather were inviting and fit into my decadently girly day-off, so I decided to sneak a peek.

Matteo Mio bags at Whatever Lola Wants

Whatever Lola Wants looks like a boutique you'd find in say, Parkdale rather than Leaside . But this midtown location is one of the reasons why owner Rhonda Fruitman decided to set shop north of Bloor. "Bayview is a destination, and since we're the only store of this kind in the neighborhood the reception has been really good."

Jennifer Scott plaques at Whatever Lola Wants

Everything in the store is 100% handcrafted in Canada by smaller, independent artists and labels including Montreal's Matteo Mio , whose one-of-a-kind buttery leather handbags ($140) belong on every fashionista's arm (including yours truly). The store also features local artist Jennifer Scott's baroque-inspired plaques.

Wild Prairies and EINA Designs at Whatever Lola Wants

Edmonton's Wild Prairies line of body lotions and natural soaps and pajamas from Vancouver's EINA Designs could be nice gifts for a slumber party-themed bachelorette.

WLW is filled with gift ideas and covetable accessories that Rhonda personally handpicks for her store. So who's Lola? "There really isn't a Lola," she laughs. Judging from the neighborhood's positive reception, I guess Lola is in most of us women.
