World Goth Day: INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE

Did you know there is such a thing World Goth Day? Indeed there is. And we're celebrating in Toronto the best way we know how: in the dark! Dry clean your velvet capes and join us for a special screening of INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE at the historic Royal Cinema, Saturday May 21.

This is our third year of Goth movie night at the Royal, and we're getting a jump on the rest of the world with a full Saturday night of programming.

Our feature this year is 1994's INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE, the blockbuster adaptation of Anne Rice's seminal novel that introduced her Vampire Chronicles. Sumptuously directed by Neil Jordan, it stars Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise as the iconic bloodsuckers Louis and Lestat, tormented souls wandering the streets of New Orleans and Paris. The film did much to inspire the mainstream embrace of goth in the 1990s and, for better and worse, also kicked-started the sensitive vampire trend. These are afterall vamps as romantic, emotional, suffering creatures of great beauty and fluid sexuality with a fondness for art and good tailoring. (So, basically Goths.) Co-starring Christian Slater as the reporter and Kirsten Dunst as the immortal child Claudia. Screening at 8pm.

Preceding the feature is the first public screening of 40 YEARS A GOTH STYLE, an original short fashion video tracing the evolution of goth looks from 1970s to today.
