Waddington's Contemporary Canadian Art Auction

Toronto, ON - Waddington’s presents its fourth auction of contemporary Canadian art on September 23, 2014.

Stephen Ranger, Vice President Waddington’s and Director of Concrete Contemporary, describes assembling this auction as “a great problem of having too much work to choose from.” Ranger’s goal for Concrete is to present bi-annual, tightly-curated auctions geared for the contemporary art market. He was particularly challenged given the quantity and quality of works offered by consignors for this auction and pleased to finally decide on 59 excellent examples of contemporary Canadian art.

As Waddington’s contemporary art division, Concrete is becoming known for breaking new ground and offering works by artists new to the Canadian auction market. This is certainly the case with Oshawa-born artist Shaun Downey who, in 2010, won the BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery in London, England. Setting another first, the September 2014 auction will present work by renowned Montreal-born photographer Robert Polidori. His work has been exhibited, collected and lauded around the world, but never before offered at auction in Canada. Polidori’s photographs of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina are poignant and powerful.

The auction will also include works by Kim Dorland, Michael Adamson, James Lahey, Kelly Mark, Graham Gillmore, Melanie Authier, and many other important artists currently at the forefront of the contemporary Canadian art market.
