U.S Election 2016: Populism & Discontent

In the lead-up to this year's general election, the mainstream political leadership of the United States has come under scrutiny, and its legitimacy has been called to question. Candidates and nominees who brand themselves as "political outsiders" have found considerable success. What are the origins of this populist rhetoric, and reasons for its recent re-emergence? What does it tell us about unresolved political discontent in America? And crucially, how will it impact the final results of the election?

The Hart House Debates Committee and International Relations Society are proud to partner to discuss these questions with the Honourable John LaFalce, former Congressman for the State of New York. He will be joined by a panel of experts whose bios will be posted on this page in the coming days.
