Exhibition Run: Thursday, October 20th, 2016 - Sunday, November 13th, 2016
What is left behind, residue.
Traces is an exhibition that investigates ideas surrounding identity, absence, and memory. Each artist explores the possibilities of evolving our formative experiences into artifacts of individual inner-realities. Residual impressions may be caused by the presence or process of addition and elimination. Ostensibly, traces are activated through fragmentations, intermedial practices, and fractures. The concept of a trace is not limited to one understanding or approach, creating a platform in which artists can engage with multiple mediums. Included are works that employ photography, painting, drawing, sculpture, and film. Although the mediums included are broad, each work closely relates to ideas of temporality, ephemera as well as the residues we leave behind.
Featuring the works of Nicholas Aiden, Maddie Alexander, Claire Bartleman, Catherine Bluemke, Clea Christakos-Gee, Ailene de Vries, Mara Gajic, Saba Giani, Paige Lindsay, Kesang Nanglu, Dana Prieto, Alexander Rondeau, Melanie Winter
Art Camp 2016 brings together 13 emerging artists from OCAD University and Ryerson University to build community and create art during a five-month residency program.
