State of Mind

State of Mind. A journey into the emotional inner world Art Calorie is pleased to present State of Mind. A journey into the emotional inner world, an exhibition that celebrates the talent of three young Chinese artists: Zhaoyue Yu, Zhizi Wang, and Rushi (Yuna) Li. The exhibition will run from September 28, 2016 to October 3 at the Gallery 1313 as a free event. The opening reception takes place on Thursday, September 29, 2016. Zhaoyue Yu is currently enrolled in the Photography program at OCAD University. He took a challenge to capture feeling with his camera inspired by the landscapes and the atmospheres of his homeland. His works were on display at the Shan Exhibition in Guilin (2014), and the 5447 Art Triennial in Wuxi (2015).

Zhizi Wang lives and creates her art in Toronto, while studying Drawing and Painting at OCAD University. She is keen to examine different media and their materiality such oil, watercolor, and acrylic. Her work assimilates aspects of both traditional Chinese painting and contemporary art.

Also student at OCAD University, Rushi (Yuna) Li is at her fourth year of Painting and Drawing. She is the leader of the OCAD University Chinese Student Association (OCSA). She was born in in Beijing, moved to Canada, and traveled across Europe, so her art benefits from the diverse cultural inputs.

The exhibition is designed to create a platform of reflection on the human emotions. Through their artistic expression, Zhaoyue, Zhizi, and Rushi combine their interpretation of the subject by means of natural elements, body language, abstraction of forms, and the use of different materials.

The reception is a public event for the community to inaugurate the exhibition opening with the artists. Please join us from 7 pm on Thursday, September 29, 2016. You will be welcomed with exhibition’s very own wine and DJ Sun’s special performance
