Samito

Massey Hall presents

Samito

Samito is a Mozambique-born artist whose music blends acoustic and electronic traditions, nostalgia and political satire, and creates highly-charged rhythm and lyrics in Portuguese, French, English and Tswa that mark a new Afro-aesthetic era. Moving from Maputo to Montreal in 2005, he has worked with a range of boundary-bursting artists including Nom De Plume, Mamoru Kobayakawa, The New Groove Orchestra, Radio Radio, Emma Frank, Pierre Kwenders, Hans Wilwright and more. Xico Xico, his debut album, came out in 2015, and took influence from the shangaan electronic music emanating from South Africa. Samito was one of three artists selected by Radio-Canada for their 2015-2016 Rvlations, the French broadcasters music-discovery platform.
