Pontypool 2008 - A CIUT Presentation!

CIUT and THE CARLTON CINEMA

proudly present:

PONTYPOOL

directed by Bruce McDonald

Canada / 2008 / 93 mins / English

When disc jockey Grant Mazzy Stephen McHattie reports to his basement radio station in the Canadian town of Pontypool, he thinks it's just another day at work. But when he hears reports of a virus that turns people into zombies, Mazzy barricades himself in the radio booth and tries to figure out a way to warn his listeners about the virus and its unlikely mode of transmission: the English language.

The awesomeness of which the Carlton's October programming so totally reeks of, has just been raised another level with the addition of Bruce McDonald's canucksploitation classic PONTYPOOL!

Based on Tony Burgess' novel PONTYPOOL CHANGES EVERYTHING, Burgess adapted the material for the screen himself. According to McDonald, the writer hashed out a script in 48 hours. Orson Welles' infamous radio broadcast of THE WAR OF THE WORLDS inspired the approach that they decided to take. It was simultaneously produced as a motion picture and a radio play.

So come on down to the Carlton on Friday, October 28th and make sure you stick around afterwards to catch THE CARLTON MIDNIGHT SOCIETY's 11pm screening of HOBGOBLINS afterwards!
