Please join me at my BIRTHDAY EXHIBIT, showcasing the work I've been developing over the past six months!

Also, I'll be selling affordable prints starting from $5 5x6 - 8x10

My name is Jah Grey. I am a queer artist from Toronto. I am a survivor.

I shoot portraits of people in my community, generally in black and white, and explore themes of gender, sexuality and self-expression. By offering a perspective through my heArt, I am working to challenge normative ideas. My photography encourages people to become more open minded and more appreciative of our simple freedoms, even within our struggles, and to see the similarities that lie even within our vulnerabilities.

The message in my art is about redefining the social norms of blackness, gender, race and queerness and rebelling against the constructs others place on our bodies and our identities. Having the strength and vulnerability to challenge normative ideas is central to my photography. I feel we often let society control and dictate who we are, where we belong and who we need to be and forget to carve out new spaces in ourselves for change, growth and evolution.
