Open Roof Festival - Ping Pong Summer

It’s going to get weird. Real weird, as the Toronto trio of robots from space known as Matrox bring their Kraftwerk-esque dance music to the ORF soundstage. Tonight’s film, Ping Pong Summer, starring Susan Sarandon, keeps the extraterrestrial theme going at sundown. Rad Miracle is a shy 13-year-old white kid who’s obsessed with ping pong and hip-hop. On his family’s annual summer vacation in 1985, Rad makes a new best friend, experiences his first real crush, becomes the target of rich local bullies and finds an unexpected mentor in his outcast next-door neighbour. Ping Pong Summer is a movie that skillfully captures the trials, tribulations and triumph of self-discovery in an adolescent who feels like an alien to everyone around.

The evening’s custom menu crafted by 99 Sudbury’s in-house chefs echoes the setting of the film with a “Beach BBQ” theme. Plus, a diverse selection of food items from Cool City Oyster Yard, and beers from ORF’s long-standing partner Amsterdam Brewery.
