OCADU COMPUTER CLUB- workshop//deep discussionz non-english-based programming languages

NOTE:

I don't really have much experience in this area, but I have contacted a few guest speakers... and hopefully we'll have one confirmed in the next few weeks.

So after looking at existing research on the matter:

8500 research languages developed

1/3rd of them were developed in an English speaking country

This excludes languages such as Ruby and Python developed in non english speaking countries

according to HOPL

Being exclusive sucks.

Most programming courses offered online, whether as a MOOC massive open online course or a subscription based service, not only offers just English based programming classes I understand that this is because of demand but I have never heard them acknowledge/ offer tools to use or work with any other programming languages other than ones based in English. If you find any that do, please let me know!

Why should this bother you?

Because its still exclusive. Although there are initiatives to increase computer/ digital illiteracy, I havent found anything that specifically addresses this yet.
