MORE ABOUT THIS AMAZING LINEUP:

MIX MASTER MIKE

Named as one of the greatest DJs of all time by USA Today, Mix Master Mike got his initial itch for vinyl while growing up in San Francisco listening to his uncle's extensive record collection. Years later, the moment that had the most impact on him was catching Grandmixer DST on stage with Herbie Hancock.

While cutting his chops in the late 80's, Mike met met Richard Quitevis, better known as Q-Bert. Q-Bert wasn't a DJ at the time, but was so impressed with Mikes scratching technique that it had the same effect on him as watching Grandmixer DST had for Mike. The following day, Richard went over to Mike's to watch him practice and it was there that the two quickly became friends and soon after formed Invisibl Skratch Piklz

In 1992, Mike was the first West Coast DJ to become World Champion by winning the New Music Seminar DJ Battle for World Supremacy in New York City. That same year, Mike and Invisibl Skratch Piklz, known as the first ever scratch band, won the DMC World title.

Whilst Mike was cutting his teeth in competitive turntablism and winning everything he entered he was finding inspiration in the music of New York hip hop trio, The Beastie Boys and a chance meeting in 1994 between Adam Yauch aka MCA fulfilled a dream for Mike and changed his life forever.

"I was a huge Beastie Boy fan. They were like the Rolling Stones, The Beatles, the Led Zeppelin of hip hop. I wanted to be a part of that.

"Late night I used to leave these messages on his answering machine, "yo Adam check this out man, this is called the Reverse Octopus Scratch", put the phone down next to the speaker and cut it up. Then you know, following week "yo Adam what's up? This is Mix Master Mike, uhh I got this tweak scratch I wanna show you, check it out". Persistence. That's how it all started".

Heading into the studio, Mike recorded the multi-platinum album "Hello Nasty" with the Beastie Boys and became the group's resident DJ and 4th member. Recording music and touring the globe together they formed lifelong friendships.

GRAND WIZARD THEODORE

One of early hip-hop's most skilled DJs, Grand Wizard Theodore is universally acknowledged as the inventor of the scratch. Grandmaster Flash pioneered many early turntable techniques, including "cutting" records manually cueing up duplicate copies of the same record in order to play the same passage, cutting back and forth between them, but it was the young Theodore who built on Flash's work by taking the scratching sound made when the records were cued, and adding a rhythm that made the turntable into a percussion instrument the DJ could "play." Theodore is also credited with pioneering the needle drop, a technique where, instead of cueing up the record silently, the DJ simply drops the needle onto the exact start of the passage to be played.

KC ROBERTS & THE LIVE REVOLUTION

After their set at the TD Toronto Jazz Festival in 2012, Artistic Director Josh Grossman called KCLR scary gooda blast to hear and just as fun to watch. In September 2013, NOW Magazine listed KCLR as one of Torontos 10 Local Buzz Bands Set to Break Big. And on October 15th, 2013 KCLR will release their fourth record, one that lives up to the buzz generated by their live performances.
